| Lisa Gade reviews the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7" model. The HDX has a 7", 1920 x 1200 IPS display that's super sharp and has lovely colors. It runs on the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU with Adreno 330 graphics, making it one of the fastest tablets currently on the market. The Fire HDX models are available as WiFi only or WiFi plus 4G LTE (Verizon and AT&T are available) tablets and you can get it with 16, 32 or 64 gigs of internal storage. The price starts at $229 for the 16 gig WiFi model. The Fire HDX has a front 720p camera for video chat, access to Amazon's cloud and storefront including Prime Instant Video, books, magazines and the Amazon app store. It has stereo speakers with Dolby Plus audio, 2 gigs of RAM, dual band WiFi 802.11b/g/n with MIMO and Bluetooth. | Lisa Gade reviews the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9. This is Amazon's new 8.9" tablet for fall 2013. It weighs just 13.2 ounces and has one of the best tablet displays on the market with full sRGB color coverage, excellent contrast and resolution. The Fire HDX 8.9 has a 2560 x 1600 IPS display, stereo speakers with Dolby, dual band WiFi 802.11n with MIMO, Bluetooth, a front webcam and rear 8MP camera with LED flash. It runs Fire OS 3.0 "Mojito" on a quad core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU with Adreno 330 graphics, making it one of the faster tablets on the market. It's available with WiFi and WiFi + 4G LTE on AT&T and Verizon. Fire OS uses Android 4.0 as its core. |
| Amazon's $199 Kindle Fire HD sales rocketed after the iPad mini announcement, breaking a fever of consumer hesitation. "Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD's biggest day of sales since launch and up 3x week over week," said Amazon's Drew Herdener in an interview with All Things D. Apple has a long history of selling its products at a premium, and the iPad mini is no different. The Cupiterno tech company offers two tiers of prices for the 16, 32, and 64GB versions of the device. The Wifi-only versions sell for the following prices: the 16GB costs $329, the 32GB costs $429, and the 64GB costs $529. The Cellular-enabled devices cost $459 for 16GB, $449 for 32GB, and $659 for 64GB. Amazon offers the Kindle Fire HD in 7-inch and 8.9-inch versions. For the 7-inch tablets, the company sells the 16GB at $199, and the 32GB at $249. The 8.9-inch Fire HD offers the 16GB for $299 and the 32GB for $369. A 32GB 4G LTE costs $499, while the 64GB LTE Fire costs $499. Spec-wise, the 7-inch Fire sports a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, with a 1280 x 800 resolution that runs 720p. The 8.9 tablet displays at 1080p with a 1920 x 1200 resolution, and runs off of a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. |
